Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 1 cup sour cream You can substitute with Greek yogurt for tang and fewer calories.
  • 1 cup mayonnaise Light mayo or vegan mayo can be used for a dairy-free option.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Sharp or mild; smoked cheddar adds depth.

Aromatics and Seasoning

  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions Scallions can be used.
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion Use white or sweet onion.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder Fresh minced garlic (1 clove, minced) can be used instead.
  • 1 tsp paprika Use sweet or smoked paprika for a smoky note.
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Topping

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Panko for extra crunch; gluten-free crumbs are acceptable.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium mixing bowl, add the sour cream and mayonnaise. Whisk until smooth.
  • Stir in the shredded cheddar, chopped green onions, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until evenly combined and creamy.
  • Transfer the mixture to a shallow serving dish, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  • Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the surface for texture. Optionally, toast the breadcrumbs in a dry skillet for 2–3 minutes until golden before topping.
  • Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld.

Serving

  • Serve chilled or at slightly cool room temperature with chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks.

Notes

For a lighter dip, replace half the mayo with additional Greek yogurt. Fold in 1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan for a cheesier hit.
