Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 slices hearty white bread (thick-cut) Sourdough or whole wheat are fine; use thick slices for structure.
  • 4 teaspoons butter, softened For toasting the bread.
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise or another sauce Can substitute with aioli, chipotle mayo, Greek yogurt + lemon.
  • 4 slices thin-cut turkey bacon Thin-cut crisps quickly and layers nicely; center-cut is leaner.
  • 2–4 leaves green leaf lettuce Freshly washed and dried.
  • 1 perfectly ripe tomato Cut into 3/8-inch thick rounds.
  • 1/2 perfectly ripe avocado Sliced into thin strips.
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper To taste.

Instructions

Cooking the Turkey Bacon

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F if baking, heat a skillet over medium if frying.
  • Bake turkey bacon for 12–18 minutes or pan-fry until crisp but flexible. Remove and tear each slice in half to make 8 strips.
  • Keep warm on a paper towel-lined plate.

Preparing the Bread

  • Spread softened butter on both sides of each slice of bread.
  • Toast in a skillet over medium heat for 1–2 minutes per side until golden.

Assembling the Sandwich

  • Spread mayonnaise on one slice of toasted bread.
  • Layer lettuce, two tomato slices (season with salt and pepper), and eight half-strips of turkey bacon.
  • Top with sliced avocado and another sprinkle of salt and pepper if desired.
  • Finish with the second slice of toasted bread spread with mayonnaise, press gently, and slice in half.

Notes

For best results, store sandwich components separately; leftovers do not store well assembled.
