Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, fat trimmed off
  • 1 1/4 cups barbecue sauce (Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ recommended) Use your favorite BBQ sauce.
  • 1/2 cup Italian dressing Fat-free works fine.
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar Reduce to 1/8 cup or omit for less sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Spray the inside of a large crockpot with non-stick cooking spray or use a disposable liner for easy cleanup.
  • Season the chicken breasts generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Place the seasoned breasts in the bottom of the crockpot in a single layer.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce, Italian dressing, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Pour the sauce evenly over the chicken breasts in the crockpot.

Cooking

  • Cover and cook on High for 2.5–3 hours or on Low for 5–6 hours.
  • Use a meat thermometer to confirm the thickest part of the chicken reaches 165°F.
  • Remove the lid. For juicy shredded chicken, shred the breasts directly in the crockpot using two forks. Stir so the sauce coats every strand.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, or extra BBQ sauce if desired.
  • Serve warm as desired.

Notes

This dish is versatile and can be served on sandwiches, pizzas, tacos, or salads. Customize sweetness and flavors by adjusting brown sugar and sauces.
