Ingredients

Sandwich Base

  • 4 pieces Hoagie rolls (soft, split)
  • 6 cups Lettuce (romaine or iceberg for crunch) Or torn-leaf romaine for sturdier bites or butter lettuce for a softer mouthfeel.
  • 2 cups Tomatoes (vine-ripe or Roma, chopped) Use firmer varieties to minimize sogginess.
  • 1 medium Red onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 cup Pepperoncini (sliced; substitute banana peppers if preferred) Can be omitted for kids.

Meats and Cheese

  • 6 oz beef salami (thinly sliced) Substitute hot beef salami for a spicy version.
  • 6 oz turkey ham (deli-sliced)
  • 6 oz Provolone cheese (sliced) Can be swapped for mozzarella or Swiss.

Dressing and Seasoning

  • 1/4 cup Olive oil (extra virgin for flavor)
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar Can substitute with apple cider vinegar.
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper Freshly ground.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Slice the hoagie rolls in half lengthwise and set the tops aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine the chopped lettuce, diced tomatoes, thinly sliced red onion, and sliced pepperoncini. Toss gently to mix.

Assembly

  • On the bottom halves of the hoagie rolls, layer the beef salami, then turkey ham, then provolone slices so the cheese sits atop the meats.
  • Spoon the vegetable mixture evenly over the meats and cheese, distributing the tomatoes and pepperoncini well.
  • Drizzle each sandwich with olive oil and a splash of apple cider vinegar. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning, and season lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  • Close the sandwiches with the top halves of the rolls and press down gently to help everything settle.
  • Serve the sandwiches cold or let them sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes to allow flavors to mingle.

Notes

For best texture, eat within 24 hours. To minimize sogginess, dry lettuce well and keep salad lightly dressed until assembly.
