Ingredients

Base

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20) Best for flavor
  • 3 cups broccoli florets Fresh or thawed frozen; bite-sized

Aromatics & fat

  • 1 medium onion, diced Sweet or yellow
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Can substitute with avocado oil

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes Optional for a spicy kick

Finishing

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Sharp cheddar melts nicely
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream Gives a rich, silky finish
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Optional for umami lift

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium until it shimmers.
  • Add the ground beef and break it apart with a spatula. Cook, stirring occasionally, until deeply browned and no longer pink — about 6–8 minutes.
  • Push the cooked beef to one side of the skillet.
  • Toss the diced onion and minced garlic into the empty space. Cook about 3 minutes until the onion is translucent and the garlic smells fragrant.

Cooking

  • Stir in the broccoli florets, tossing gently to coat with beefy juices.
  • Sprinkle in salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder, and give everything a good stir.
  • Cover the skillet with a tight lid and let it cook 5–7 minutes, checking once and stirring gently.
  • Turn heat to low and pour in the heavy cream, scraping up browned bits from the pan.
  • Let the cream warm and thicken a minute, then sprinkle shredded cheddar evenly over the top.
  • Cover again for 2–3 minutes until cheese melts gooey. If using Worcestershire and red pepper flakes, add them now and fold gently.

Notes

If you want it cheesier, swap half the cheddar for Monterey Jack. If dairy-free, try coconut cream and a dairy-free shredded blend. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator or freeze for up to 3 months.
