  • 3 pieces ripe bananas Use very ripe bananas for the sweetest flavor.
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour Can substitute with oat flour for a gluten-free version.
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce Use as a healthier substitute for egg.
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup Optional for added sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon alcohol-free vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Optional.
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips Optional add-ins.

Instructions
 

Baking the Banana Bread

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  • Mash the bananas in a large bowl until smooth.
  • Mix in the applesauce and alcohol-free vanilla extract to the bananas and combine well.
  • In another bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. If you wish, fold in the nuts or chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan.
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Once done, allow to cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or freeze it wrapped tightly for up to three months.
