Sweet Heat Pickles

Bright, crunchy kosher pickles turned slightly sweet and fragrant with garlic and herbs, kicked with red pepper flakes for a zippy snack or condiment.

Ingredients
  

Pickles

  • 1 jar Kosher pickles Taste the pickles first — if very salty, reduce added salt in other recipes.

Marinade

  • 0.5-1 tsp Red pepper flakes Adjust according to heat preference.
  • 1-2 cloves Garlic, minced Or substitute with 1/2 tsp garlic powder.
  • 1-2 tbsp Fresh herbs (dill, thyme), chopped Dried herbs can work in a pinch—use about one-third the amount.
  • 1-2 tsp Sugar Alternatives: honey or maple syrup for different sweetness.

Preparation

  • Drain the jar of pickles and slice the cucumbers to your desired thickness.
  • In a small bowl, combine red pepper flakes, minced garlic, chopped herbs, and sugar. Stir until the sugar partially dissolves.
  • Arrange sliced pickles vertically or stacked in a clean jar. Pack them snugly but don’t smash.
  • Spoon the herb-garlic-sugar mixture over the pickles. Press down gently and pour any leftover pickle juice into the jar.
  • Close the jar tightly and refrigerate for at least 24 hours before tasting.

Serving

  • Pull the jar from the fridge when ready and use on burgers, sandwiches, or enjoy cold as a snack.

Notes

These pickles are best kept sealed in the fridge, ideally consumed within 3–4 weeks. Use clean utensils to avoid contamination. If anything seems off, discard.
